A seminar featuring a panel of experienced photographers and academics from China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong will be held from 2pm to 6pm on December 5 at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
Entitled "Recent Developments and Current Affairs in Contemporary Photography in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan", the seminar is held in association with the exhibition "City Flâneur: Social Documentary Photography", and seeks to shed light on how the art of photography connects and reflects the unique and continually evolving cultural milieus and economic and social environments of the four places.
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum introduced the "Hong Kong Photography Series" in 2009, to help promote the art of photography. The first programme in the series, "The Verve of Light and Shadow: Master Photographers Tchan Fou-li, Kan Hing-fook, Leo K. K. Wong", showcased the works of these three seasoned artists. The second and upcoming exhibition, "City Flâneur: Social Documentary Photography", introduces a group of documentary photographers and their works from the 1960s to the present, which show in humanist terms where their hearts lie.
To coincide with the "City Flâneur: Social Documentary Photography" exhibition and the Hong Kong Photo Festival 2010, the Heritage Museum has combined with the Hong Kong Photographic Culture Association to organise the seminar, at which experienced photographers and academics from the four places have been invited to speak. They are Wong Kai-yu from Hong Kong, Frank Lei from Macau, Cheng Tsun Shing and Chang Fangwei from Taiwan and Gu Zheng, Bao Kun, Peng Zhenge and Tsai Meng from China.
Admission to the seminar is free. Those wishing to attend are advised to make advance registration. The application form is available on the Heritage Museum's website and places are on a first-come,first-served basis.
Simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese, Putonghua and English will be provided, with a limited number of receivers available.
