******************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (November 17) that the auction for stalls at the 2011 Fong Ma Po Lunar New Year Fair at Lam Tsuen, Tai Po will be held on December 1 (Wednesday).

The 15-day fair will be held from February 3 to 17, 2011, from 8am to 6pm daily.

The opening prices for the 22 dry goods stalls and the six wet goods stalls are $950 and $940 respectively.

The auction will begin at 9.30am at Tai Po Community Centre. Dry goods stalls will be auctioned first, followed by the wet goods stalls.

Bidders must be at least 18 years old and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong. Children under six years of age will not be permitted into the auction venue.

Individuals may bid for more than one stall. Successful bidders are required to pay the bid price of the stall immediately after the auction or will forfeit their right to the stall, in which case the stall concerned will then be put up for re-auction immediately.

For the protection of the Wish-Making Trees, stall operators will not be allowed to sell placards tied with any heavy object (including fruit). The licence agreements of those who fail to comply with the requirement will be terminated.

Arrangements to protect the Wish-Making Trees are made by the departments concerned and co-ordinated by the Tai Po District Office of the Home Affairs Department with support from local residents.

The fair site will be made available three days in advance for the setting up of stalls, from January 31 to February 2, 2011. However, no business shall be conducted on these three days.

Stall licensees must remove the stall structure and paraphernalia, together with refuse, debris and unsold commodities (whether damaged or otherwise) from the licensed area before 6pm on February 17, 2011.

Stall licensees should not mutilate, destroy, damage or abandon any unsold commodities at or in the vicinity of their stalls. They may surrender those unsold flowers and plants left behind at the stalls to the department at no charge, cost or compensation whatsoever before 6pm on February 17, 2011.

For more information about the auction, please call the FEHD's Tai Po District Environmental Hygiene Office at 3183 9108 or 2657 1137.
