A new style of erhu music to be presented in December concert
******************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will give a concert in December, showing a new angle on erhu music.

This concert will not only bring the most lilting pieces to music lovers, but also introduce a whole new style of erhu music. Patrons will be able to experience the amalgamation of traditional Chinese music with elements of Western music, as the two move towards a synthesis that takes the music to a new international dimension. The Orchestra has invited lecturer at the Central Conservatory of Music and an outstanding young erhu player, Sun Huang and well-known local conductor Ho Man-chuen, to appear at the concert. The programme will also mark the Hong Kong premiere of the erhu concerto, "A Dream of Rivers in the Clouds".

Other attractions include "Toward Brightness" by Liu Tianhua, "Rhapsody for Erhu No. 1" by Wang Jianmin, "Plucked-string Music" by Sun Wenmin, and "The Internet Symphony No. 1 'Eroica'" by Tan Dun.

The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979, with an aim to promote Chinese music and carry forward its rich heritage. The Orchestra participated in the concerts organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in celebration of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. On the 30th anniversary of its foundation, the Orchestra invited friends from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia and Sichuan, China, to perform in a concert in Hong Kong. The Orchestra has made many recordings on both cassette tape and CD, including the Gold Disc winner, "Fishermen's Song of the East Sea".

This concert by the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will be staged at 8pm, December 5 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $140, $110 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets.
