********************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, visited Kwai Tsing District this afternoon (November 10), to learn more about its latest developments.

Greeted on site by the District Officer (Kwai Tsing), Mr Alan Lo, Miss Yue first visited Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Kwai Chung), an aided co-educational school. The school takes the lead in co-ordinating with four other schools in the district to organise inter-school physical education modules for students under the New Senior Secondary academic structure.

Accompanied by the Physical Education teacher, Miss Ho Shuk-ting who was one of the three Kwai Tsing District torchbearers of the 2008 Olympic Torch Relay in Hong Kong, Miss Yue watched junior form students attending swimming lessons in the indoor thermostatic swimming pool.

She also took the opportunity to meet senior form students who have chosen physical education elective modules, and listened to their views and aspirations.

Miss Yue next proceeded to the Resource Centre of the Kwai Tsing Safe Community and Healthy City Association at Princess Margaret Hospital. The Association, comprising over 30 government departments, educational bodies and private organisations, was set up in 2002 to promote a safety culture and healthy lifestyle in the community.

Miss Yue was glad to learn that the Resource Centre was equipped with health education audio-visual aids, an Internet cafˆm, a breastfeeding room, a co-op shop providing home care appliances, physical fitness displays and self-health assessment equipment.

The Association also organises health seminars, medical check-ups and training programmes at its Resource Centre, attracting over 30,000 visitors last year - a 30% rise on 2006 figures.

During her tour, Miss Yue joined a group of elderly people attending a seminar on healthy eating seminar at the Resource Centre.

Miss Yue said she was pleased that Kwai Tsing was accredited by the World Health Organisation as a "Healthy City" and a "Safe Community".

Before concluding her visit, Miss Yue joined Kwai Tsing District Council members for a tea gathering and listened to their views on the latest development in Kwai Tsing District.
