The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, met the Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr Xu Qin, today (August 10) to exchange views on furthering Hong Kong/Shenzhen co-operation.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Both sides concluded on the successful experience gained from complementing each other's strengths and implementing co-ordinated development over the years. The two sides also agreed to continue the close partnership on the basis of "One Country, Two Systems" principle and the existing Hong Kong/Shenzhen co-operation platform, with a view to consolidating our advantages while promoting the enhancement of industrial structure in the Pearl River Delta Region.
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, also met the Mayor and other Shenzhen officials. Riding on the opportunities provided by the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and its expansion, they discussed ways to enhance co-operation between the two places, strengthen industry co-operation, in particular co-operation on the service industries, facilitate people flow between the two places and exchanged views on the development of Qianhai and Lok Ma Chau Loop areas. The two sides agreed to expedite the preparatory work for the coming Hong Kong/Shenzhen Co-operation Meeting to be held later in the year.
