Locally based Yuen Hai Artiste Troupe will join the Wuhan Municipal Arts School to perform the dance poem, "Stepping into the Seasons of the Future", next month (August).
"Stepping into the Seasons of the Future" represents an attitude towards life: to positively face and deal with life's challenges, much as we would optimistically embrace and adapt to seasonal changes, and not to be discouraged when things get tough or when we are down, but to continuously strive to build a better future for ourselves and for humanity.
Yuen Hai Artiste Troupe is one of the oldest non-profit performing groups in Hong Kong, with a current membership of close to 300. Since its establishment in 1968, the troupe has staged many shows and has given numerous performances for various organisations and charity groups. It has also appeared at memorable occasions including the 1998 International Children's Arts Carnival presented by the former Regional Council of Hong Kong; the rally welcoming China's astronaut, Yang Liwei, to Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium in 2003; the show celebrating the holding of the equestrian events in Hong Kong as part of the Beijing Olympics in 2008; and the show for the East Asian Games.
Founded in 1951, the Wuhan Municipal Arts School is a key polytechnic school at national level. Maestro Mei Lanfang was its first honorary headmaster. The school offers more than a dozen programmes for professional training, including Chinese traditional theatre, drama/television/film performance, dance, music, art, costume design, acrobatics and puppetry. Among the eight winners of the Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre in Wuhan, seven were trained at the school. Its troupes have performed in many cities on the Mainland as well as in Europe, the United States and many countries and regions in Asia. Many of its faculty members and students are winners of major professional awards, while many of its graduates have been admitted to tertiary institutes, including the People's Liberation Army Institute of Arts, the Central Academy of Drama, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the Beijing Dance Academy and the Central Conservatory of Music, for their excellent performing standards. The touring members of the production include national class one actors such as Yang Qing and Yang Su as instructors.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), "Stepping into the Seasons of the Future" will be staged at 8pm, August 28 (Saturday), and 3pm, August 29 (Sunday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
Tickets priced at $90, $110 and $130 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
