Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office received the Journalism Education Foundation in Berlin (with photo)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), Berlin of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) received the visiting Journalism Education Foundation Hong Kong delegation in its office on May 17, 2010.  The Director of HKETO Mr Stephen Wong Kai-yi provided a briefing on the HKETO's work and hosted a dinner for the delegation.

     Receiving the 20-member delegation at the HKETO's office, the Director gave a detailed briefing to the delegation, led by Mr Tavier Lau Chi-kuen, Chairman of Journalism Education Foundation and Principal Lecturer of Hong Kong Baptist University, on the HKETO's work in the past three years, especially the work in the past year having permanently set up in Berlin in March 2009.

     The delegation from Hong Kong is on a 10-day visit of European cities, meeting with fellow media organisations, as well as other national and international institutions.  Berlin is the delegation's first stop.  They will meet fellow media organisations such as Die Welt and Der Spiegel, as well as visiting the German Bundestag.  The delegation will travel on to Frankfurt, visiting the European Central Bank and other institutions.  After leaving Germany, the journalists will travel to Geneva and London.

     HKETO, Berlin is HKSAR Government's first overseas representative office established since Hong Kong's reunification with China in 1997.  It is the official HKSAR Government representative in commercial relations and other economic and trade matters in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Switzerland.  

About Journalism Education Foundation Hong Kong

     The Journalism Education Foundation was set up by The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong News Executives' Association in December 2006. As a non-profit organisation, the foundation seeks to raise the standards of journalism by promoting outstanding journalists through organising training programmes and through media education programmes.
