Four Gig Heads to hold annual percussion concert

     Renowned for its ability to embrace different musical traditions, Four Gig Heads Percussion Group will give its annual concert next month (June).

     The locally based ensemble will perform "A Hundred Years of Solitude ¡ª Chinese Drums Ensemble", "Marubatoo", "The Crested Myna Washing", "Head Talk", "Tribal Beat Sound System", "jose/beFORe JOHN5", "Third Construction" and "Inuyasha" with the group "Made in Hong Kong @ Four Gig Heads", which is run by the ensemble, and two members of Four Gig Heads' internship scheme - Louis Siu and Jason Leung.

     The Four Gig Heads Percussion Group comprises local percussionists Angus Fu, Chau Chin-tung, Ho Yi-on and Luk Kin-bun. Since its inception in 1998, the group has been engaged in a wide variety of cultural events, including concerts celebrating the 5th and 10th anniversaries of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2002 and 2007, and the performance at the reception celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in 2009. The ensemble has also performed at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, and arts festivals in Berlin, London, Korea and the Philippines.

     Four Gig Heads has a versatile repertoire encompassing an array of styles, including Peking opera percussion music, the gong-and-drum music of eastern Zhejiang, the "daliuzi" of the Tujia ethnic minority of western Hunan, American country music, Brazilian samba, as well as works by leading contemporary composers.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Four Gig Heads Annual Concert 2010 will be held at 8pm, June 19 (Saturday), at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall. Tickets priced at $100, $130 and $180 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking schemes. Please refer to the programme leaflet or website for details.
