Fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Sha Tin this morning (May 17) in which a 45-year-old man died.

     About 5.30am, a taxi driven by a 30-year-old man travelling along Tai Chung Kiu Road towards the New Territories. When reaching the junction of Sha Tin Wai Road, the taxi reportedly collided with a south-bound public light bus (PLB), driven by a 65-year-old man, travelling along Sha Tin Rural Committee Road. The PLB then crashed into the roadside railings and toppled onto a subway outside Garden Rivera.

     A 45-year-old PLB passenger sustained serious injuries and was certified dead at scene. Also, five men and a woman, including the two drivers, two male PLB passengers and two taxi passengers, aged between 21 and 65, also sustained injuries and were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital for medical treatments.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team, Traffic New Territories South, are underway.
