SHA attends the Opening Ceremony of the 4th All-China Games (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs and the Chef de Mission of the HKSAR Delegation to the 4th All-China Games, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, started his two-day visit programmes in Hefei City, Anhui Province today (May 16).

     He attended the 4th All-China Games Delegation Heads Meeting in the morning with members of the organising committee of the Games, municipal leaders and representatives of other delegations.

     In the evening, Mr Tsang and the Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services and member of the Organising Committee of the HKSAR Delegation to the 4th All-China Games, Mr Bobby Cheng, attended the Opening Ceremony of the Games at Hefei Sports Centre to witness the official launching of the Games.

     The HKSAR Delegation marched into the venue, with golf athlete, Mr Steven Lam as the flag bearer.

     Tomorrow Mr Tsang and Mr Cheng will watch the competitions in which Hong Kong athletes participate to cheer for them.

     Held once every four years, the All-China Games is a national multi-sports event for non-Olympic sports. Comparable to the National Games, it gathers top athletes from all over the country with the aim of promoting sports events among the general public and raising the standard of play.  The 4th Games will take place in Hefei from May 16 to 26 and there will be 34 competition events.

     The HKSAR Delegation will take part in 19 sports events, including aeromodel, billiards, body building, bowling, bridge, Chinese chess, dancesport, go, golf, health qigong, life saving, lion dance, marine modelling, orienteering, rock climbing, roller sports, shuttlecock, squash and water skiing.
