Update on cluster of human swine influenza cases in a Kwai Chung Hospital female ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following update today (May 11) regarding an earlier announcement on human swine influenza cases in a female ward:

     One more patient (aged 16) had presented with symptoms of fever and flu.  Appropriate tests had been arranged. The patient is being treated under isolation at Princess Margaret Hospital and in stable condition.  Among those who have been transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment recently, viral test results of two more patients are positive for Human Swine Influenza.  The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the patients and closely monitor their conditions.

     Admission and visits to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
