DH advises a kindergarten-cum-child care centre to suspend classes
***********************************************************

The Department of Health (DH) today (May 11) advised Chan En Mei Lutheran Day Nursery on Cheung Chau to suspend classes for seven days starting tomorrow (May 12) to stop the possible spread of influenza-like illness (ILI) in the school.

The advice was given following an outbreak of influenza-like illness in the school, a spokesman for the department said.

Investigations revealed that eight boys and seven girls, aged between two and six, have developed ILI symptoms since May 5. So far, rapid laboratory tests for two of the affected children showed negative results for influenza.

Two students required hospitalisation and have been discharged. All affected children are in stable condition.

     Investigation continues.

DH officials have visited the school and provided health advice to the staff on infection control measures. The school has been put under medical surveillance.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
