*******************************************************

The Government approved today (May 11) a grant of $299,000 from the Disaster Relief Fund for Social Workers Across Borders to undertake relief projects for earthquake victims in Qinghai.

The grant is further to a disbursement of $117.34 million made earlier for the government authorities of Qinghai Province, The Amity Foundation, The Salvation Army, World Vision Hong Kong, ADRA China and Save the Children Hong Kong to provide emergency relief to victims of the earthquake in Yushu. It takes the total value of grants for earthquake victims on the Mainland to $117.639 million.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agency has been asked to submit an evaluation report and audited accounts on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
