Kwai Chung Hospital reports cluster of HSI cases in female ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital made the following announcement today (May 10):

     Since May 5, a total of 13 patients (aged from 15 to 79) in a female ward had presented with symptoms of fever and flu. Eleven patients are being treated under isolation at Princess Margaret Hospital and are in stable condition. Viral test results of nine patients are positive for human swine infuenza. The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the patients and closely monitor their condition.
 
     Admission and visits to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
 
     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
