Update on cluster of Rotavirus cases in a Queen Elizabeth Hospital neonatal ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following update today (April 21) regarding an earlier announcement on a number of the Rotavirus cases in the neonatal ward:

     One more newborn male infant (aged 7 days) has presented with diarrhea symptoms in the neonatal ward. Appropriate test was arranged and it was positive to Rotavirus. He is being treated under isolation and in stable condition.

     Admission to the cubicle concerned has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward is imposed. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been further stepped up.  All other infants in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
