Hong Kong's award-winning mobile films on show in Shanghai Expo (with photos/video)
***********************************************************

Hong Kong will showcase a rich selection of creative and interesting prize-winning mobile films produced by local talents in the coming Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo).

The "Hong Kong Mobile Film Showcase" will be staged in October in Shanghai together with a "Mobile Film Talent Exchange Forum" as part of Hong Kong's Shanghai Expo activities to epitomise the city's innovative spirit and quality life style.

The winning entries were selected from some 150 quality pieces competing in the Hong Kong Mobile Film Production Contest of the Third Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival by an assessment panel of professionals including film directors, film critics, animation specialists and industry leaders based on the work's originality, visual and audio quality as well as efficient use of the screen.

The Forum and the Showcase will provide a platform in Shanghai for Hong Kong talents in mobile film production to exhibit their creativity to the international audiences and to network with regional film-making professionals.

Industry professionals and contest winners can join "Mobile Film Talent Exchange Forum" to share experiences on mobile film production and exchange views on the industry's prospect.  Film directors will also be invited to speak at the Forum.

The Third Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival is sponsored by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government. Launched in October 2009, the Festival features an array of activities including mobile film forum, technical workshop, seminar and road shows to enhance public understanding of mobile films and promote the development of related industries.

A ceremony was held earlier today (March 25) at the 14th Hong Kong FILMART to present awards to winners of the Mobile Film Production Contest.

Officiating at the Prize Presentation Ceremony, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, said she was impressed to learn that this year's Mobile Film Production Contest received some 150 high quality entries covering a wide variety of different genres, from animation to live action and from comedy to romance.

Mrs Lau said the inspirations and creativity shown in the outstanding productions were clear testimonials to one of Hong Kong's great strengths: its ability to adapt to changes in technology through a combination of originality and technical excellence which allowed Hong Kong to develop into a production centre for mobile contents in Asia.

Hong Kong will participate in Shanghai Expo from May to October.  Apart from constructing and operating a stand-alone Hong Kong Pavilion; taking part in the Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition; and taking part in Expo Shanghai Online, over 55 events and activities will be held during the six-month Expo period to promote the city as a modern, vibrant and interconnected metropolis with high quality city life built on creativity and innovation.

Different themes will be adopted for each month to promote Hong Kong as a "Green City", a "Destination City", a "Cultural City", a "Creative City" and a city upholding the "One Country, Two Systems" principle.  A mix of programmes, including exhibitions and promotions on Hong Kong's creative industry spanning fashion, mobile films, movies to comics and animation have been lined up in September and October to showcase Hong Kong as a creative hub.
