About 500 musicians from six orchestras and choirs will perform in the 2010 Music Office Annual Gala at 3pm on April 4 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre's Concert Hall.

The musicians are trainees from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Music Office.      Under the baton of Angelina Au, Joseph Kam, Ng Ka-ming, Pak Wing-heng, Lee Sing-wan and Tsui Ying-fai, the trainees will showcase the skills and techniques they have learnt.

Pipa trainee Wong Fong and the HKYSO will jointly perform the pipa concerto "Little Sisters of the Pasture" composed by famous Chinese composers Wu Zu-keung, Wang Yin-chiu and Lau Tak-hoi, while the HKYSO's concertmaster Wan Sin-yu will perform the legendary violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers" with the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra.

Other programme highlights include "I Dreamed a Dream" from one of the best known musicals "Les Miserables", Dvorak's "Serenade in E for String Orchestra, Op. 22" and Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 5, finale".

The concert will also feature "Song of love" which expresses rich imagery of love, peace and nature; Mongolian folk song "Herdsmen's Song"; the vivid "Zigeunerleben" (Gypsy Life) which depicts the free-roaming gypsy lifestyle, and "Asuka" portraying the ancient landscape of Asuka in Japan.

Awards will also be presented to more than 40 outstanding trainees and members of the Music Office's bands, choirs and orchestras.
