How many times can the steel wires of the Tsing Ma Bridge main cables stretch around the Earth?  How many litres of blood does an adult have?

These were two of the questions in the online quiz organised by the Science in the Public Service campaign.  Though the answers are by no means easy, almost 1,000 people took up the quiz challenge.

With the successful conclusion of the online quiz earlier this year, a prize presentation ceremony was held today (March 6) at the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters.  The ceremony was hosted by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr Leung Wing-mo.  The Assistant Director of the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, Mr Eric Lam, was the guest of honour to present the prizes to the winners.

The online quiz was held from December last year to January this year.  Its aim was to enhance the public's knowledge of science and technology.  The questions were supplied by partners of the Science in the Public Service campaign and topics included science, technology, history, liberal studies and current affairs.

One of the winners, Ho Ngai-chun, said, "The questions of the online quiz were very challenging.  It took me some time to find the answers, but I learnt a lot during the process."

The Science in the Public Service campaign began in 2006.  There are now more than 40 partners, including government bureaus and departments as well as other collaborating organisations.  The campaign has organised many activities in the past four years, including joint exhibitions, scientific talks, symposiums, open days of government departments, student project competitions and fun fairs.  These activities were well-received by the public and attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
