HK City Chinese Orchestra to play A Concert of Popular Chinese Music

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "A Concert of Popular Chinese Music" by the Hong Kong City Chinese Orchestra will be held in February and March.

     The concerts  will feature renowned Chinese music maestros: conductors Hu Bingxu and Zhao Xintai, conductor and erhu soloist Ching Sau-wing, and guzheng soloist Yu Hong.

     The programme will include theme songs from TV series, "Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon ", "Autumn Moon over a Placid Lake", "In the Deep of the Night" (banhu solo), "Battling with the Typhoon" (guzheng solo), "The Ballad of Northern Henan" (erhu solo), among other works.

     Established in 1994, the Hong Kong City Chinese Orchestra has  endeavoured over the decade to promote Chinese culture, to enhance the development of Chinese music in the territory, and to foster extensive exchange activities between local and overseas musicians. The orchestra has released three albums of Chinese music, among which the erhu pieces by three maestros recorded with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra is one of the best-selling albums in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2000, a series of five concerts and 11 seminars were organised  in "A Retrospective Look at Chinese Music in the Twentieth Century". The programme attracted great interest among music circles on the Mainland and overseas.

     Tickets priced from $80 to $140 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
