Anti-drug soccer competition helps youth build positive attitude (with photos)

     The Anti-drug Soccer Competition 2009 was held today (December 20) at Happy Valley Recreation Ground, Hong Kong.

     Organised by the Narcotics Division Anti-drug Volunteer Group, the competition aimed to encourage young people to build a healthy lifestyle and stay away from drugs through sporting activities.

     After several rounds of competition, the team from Tai Po Gen Y Anti-drug Football Team finally won the game.

     The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, attended the prize presentation ceremony today.  He said it was essential to mobilise various sectors of the community to tackle the problem of youth drug abuse.  He said he was very happy to see people from all walks of life attend the competition today to contribute to the fight against drugs.

     Mr Tang also praised the participants, especially those under drug treatment, for their courage in resisting the temptation of drugs so that they could regain their confidence and build a positive attitude to life by participating in sporting activities.

     Other officiating guests were the Chairperson of the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN) Sub-committee on Preventive Education and Publicity, Ms Scarlett Pong, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Anti-drug Volunteer Group, Dr Andy Lam Siu-wing.

     A number of TVB artistes, members of the Anti-drug Volunteer Group and the Law Society of Hong Kong formed a team to compete against the Junior Police Call in a friendly match.  The cast of "The Beauty of the Game", a television drama series sponsored by the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau and the ACAN, gave vocal support.

     The competing teams included the Hong Kong Police College, Tai Po Gen Y Anti-drug Football Team, Christian Zheng Sheng College, Christian New Life Association, Caritas Lok Heep Club, Operation Dawn, Christian New Being Fellowship, and Shek Kwu Chau Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre of The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers.
