************************************************************

The Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, and Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong, attended the 75th Anniversary Cocktail Reception of Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong today (September 4). On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, they received a cheque of $1 million from the association in support of the Government's youth anti-drug programme.

Under the Government's youth anti-drug programme, a mentorship programme will be organised in all 18 districts for youths at risk and those who had abused drugs. In particular, a non-government organisation will be invited to organise a deepened mentorship programme in Tai Po. Through the mentors' sharing with youngsters who had abused drugs, it is hoped that students can reinforce their motivation to quit drugs, and learn to take up future challenges and plan for a better life.

The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong made the $1 million donation in support of the mentorship programme.

Ms Hui said, "The mentorship programme aims to help youngsters establish positive values and stay away from drugs through peer influence and encouragement, thus contributing to the effectiveness of our anti-drug measures. The Government is thankful to the association's support of the programme."
