The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Thomas Chow, expressed deep sorrow today (June 8 ) over the passing away of the boy who was involved in the incident at Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool on June 6. He sent his deep condolences to his family.
Mr Chow is deeply concerned about the incident. The Department has started a detailed investigation.
According to the preliminary information provided by the staff of the Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool, as soon as the duty lifeguards noticed that the boy might be encountering a problem in the 0.4-metre-depth area of the leisure pool, they immediately took rescue action, took him out of the water and applied Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
The Department has contacted the boy's family. It would offer them its best assistance possible.
