Sponsored by the Association of the Hong Kong Members of Guangdong's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Committees Limited and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm next Tuesday (January 27).
A total of 23,888 pieces of firing shells will be discharged in the display from three barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of 10 scenes. The sponsorship amount is over $5 million.
The display opens with the red character "8" and the Chinese character "Ox" wishing Kung Hei Fat Choy to the public. The following two scenes feature a gold ingot-shaped display and Chinese character "ji" symbolising good fortune and a prosperous year ahead. Set against "You Are the Legend" as the background music, scene seven welcomes the athletes of the East Asia Games and wishes them success. Intensifying with rapid and rhythmic fireworks, the display reaches its climax in the last scene where the Chinese characters "6" and "0" will be displayed for the first time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.
To fully enjoy the display, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.
People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to respect public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
