     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, this afternoon (January 23) toured Central and Western District to better understand the livelihood of business operators there.

     Accompanied by Central & Western District Officer, Mrs Winnie Ho, Mr Tsang visited bird’s nest and ginseng shops in Wing Lok Street and Bonham Strand West as well as Chinese medicine shops in Ko Shing Street. Then he proceeded to Des Voeux Road West where he visited a dried seafood shop.

     During the visit, Mr Tsang met a number of shop operators, talked to them about their businesses and listened carefully to their views. He said he appreciated their efforts and dedication to running the shops for years and wished them all a prosperous Lunar New Year of the Ox.

     Mr Tsang said he was pleased to see that these shops with their long history of operation preserved a special feature of the district, enlivened the community and enabled the district to become a popular tourist spot.

     Mr Tsang ended his tour by visiting the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Merchants Association where he took the chance to have a festive dinner with its personnel and representatives of shop operators.
