Special traffic and transport arrangements tomorrow evening in Happy Valley and HK Stadium vicinity
************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (January 20) reminded the public that special transport and traffic arrangements will be implemented at Happy Valley and in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium tomorrow (January 21) evening to facilitate the holding of horse race night meetings which will be held from 7.15pm to about 11pm at Happy Valley Race Course and a football match to be held from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Hong Kong Stadium.

The main points of special traffic and transport arrangements are:

- For Happy Valley: from about 6pm, Wong Nai Chung Road southbound between Queen's Road East and Hong Kong Jockey Club will be closed (except access to Aberdeen Tunnel) and Wong Nai Chung Road southbound between Village Road and Queen's Road East will be converted to one-way northbound.

- From about 35 minutes before the start of the last race, the upramp at Wong Nai Chung Road outside Hong Kong Jockey Club to Aberdeen Tunnel, Wong Nai Chung Road between Queen's Road East and Village Road, and Morrison Hill Road southbound between Leighton Road and Queen's Road East will be closed. Bus and GMB routes along Morrison Hill Road southbound heading for Aberdeen Tunnel will be diverted via Canal Road flyover.

- For Hong Kong Stadium: from about 6.30pm, Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road will be re-routed to one-way anti-clockwise traffic to facilitate traffic heading for HK Stadium. Before the end of the match, depending on crowd and traffic conditions, additional road closures at Caroline Hill Road, Eastern Hospital Road and Link Road downhill (towards Causeway Bay) will be implemented from about 9.05pm.

- Bus and GMB routes operating in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium will be diverted.

The TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium, Happy Valley Race Course and Aberdeen Tunnel Wan Chai downramp exit will be very congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and observe the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to take public transport.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation, and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public should be alert to the latest traffic news broadcast by radio and television stations.

Details of the special temporary traffic and transport arrangements are available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). For further queries, please call 1823.
