Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 15) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $12,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

     The defendant, Li So formerly trading as Tai Shan Eng Co, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA $12,915, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $180.
