The Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, this (December 11) afternoon visited Sai Kung District to learn more about the district's latest developments.
Accompanied by the District Officer (Sai Kung), Mr Peter Chan, Miss Yue first visited Tseung Kwan O (East and North) Integrated Family Service Centre.
Miss Yue learnt that the centre, operated by the Social Welfare Department, adopted a new service delivery approach, which aimed at providing comprehensive, holistic and one-stop services to meet the diversified needs of individuals and families in the district.
Miss Yue then proceeded to Tseung Kwan O Post Office, where she was briefed on the operation of the office and met the staff to gain a better understanding of their daily work.
At her next stop at Hau Tak Market, the main wet and dry goods market in the area opened in 1994, Miss Yue took the opportunity to talk to some of the stall owners and residents shopping there.
Miss Yue then proceeded to the Sai Kung Waterfront Park, which was revitalised under improvement works carried out by the Architectural Services Department in 2003. With a new design, the park has become a landmark in the district.
The park provides outdoor dining areas, a self-service visitor centre, a pool with special features, a chess garden, touch screen maps and venues for wedding ceremonies.
Miss Yue then saw the latest progress on the construction of the Sai Kung New Public Pier. The project is now going full steam under the District Minor Works Programme. She also learnt that the new pier could help relieve overcrowding of passengers upon its completion early next year.
Miss Yue's last stop was the Sai Kung District Council where she exchanged views with the members on district issues.
