The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will present a concert next month with two talented musicians performing concertos in different styles.
Violin and viola soloist Andrew Ling and conductor and pianist Jimmy Chiang Chi-bun will play Mozart's "Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio", Walton's "Viola Concerto" and Mendelssohn's "Concerto for Violin and Piano in D Minor" to take audiences into the magical world of classical music.
Hong Kong-born Andrew Ling learnt violin and viola from Henryk Kowalski, Mauricio Fuks, Alan de Veritch and Bae Ik-hwan. Ling has collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Callisto String Ensemble, Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra and Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
Conductor and pianist Jimmy Chiang Chi-bun studied with such mentors as Leopold Hager, Erwin Ortner, Maestro Seiji Ozawa, Conrad Leitner and Dr Yip Wai-hong. Chiang has won many prizes and has collaborated with the Arnold Sch?nberg Chor of Vienna, the Oradea Philharmonic (Romania) and the Ensemble Amadeus Waco (US).
Under the baton of Dr Yip, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra aims to promote music among the general public in Hong Kong. The orchestra has frequently invited famous conductors and soloists to perform. It has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public and raised awareness of indigenous culture.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra's "In Concerto" concert will be at 8pm on June 29 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $100, $150 and $200 are now available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
