The Government announced today (May 22) the appointment of a new chairman and two new members and the re-appointment of 10 members of the Airport Authority with effect from June 1, 2008.
The new chairman is Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, who has served the authority as a member since June 2003. The two new members are Ir Dr Raymond Ho Chung-tai and Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. Their term of appointment is three years from June 1, 2008, to May 31, 2011.
Dr Lo Ka-shui and Mr He Guangbei, who have served the authority as members for five years, were re-appointed for a term of two years from June 1, 2008, to May 31, 2010, whilst Mr Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, Mr Andrew Liao Cheung-sing, Mr Vincent Fang Kang, Mr Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, Ir Edmund Leung Kwong-ho, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury and the Director-General of Civil Aviation have been re-appointed as members of the authority for a term of three years from June 1, 2008, to May 31, 2011.
The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, is grateful for the retiring Chairman Dr Victor Fung Kwok-king's inspiring leadership of the authority over the past nine years.
"Dr Fung has been the driving force behind strategic initiatives to extend the catchment area of the Hong Kong International Airport into the Pearl River Delta Region and build strategic alliances with Mainland airports. He has been instrumental in developing the airport into one of our most important assets," said Mr Tsang.
Under the Airport Authority Ordinance, the chairman and members of the authority are appointed by the Chief Executive.
