Clubhouse operator fined
************************

A company was fined $2,000 today (May 21) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts.

During an inspection last November, officers from the Home Affairs Department's Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) disguised as customers and ordered food at a clubhouse on Ma Tau Kok Road, To Kwa Wan. The club had neither verified the membership status of the officers nor invited them to join the club.

The company, holder of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) of the clubhouse, contravened the special condition of the CoC that the clubhouse should serve members and their accompanied guests only on the club premises. The company was subsequently charged under section 21(1) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department appealed to the public to report illegal clubhouse operation to the OLA on 2881 7498.
