Chief Executive's official visit to Singapore (with photos)

    The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, had fruitful meetings with the leaders and senior government officials of Singapore during his second visit to the country since July 2006.

    "The visit helps to strengthen our bilateral relations by understanding each other's latest developments and exploring areas of further cooperation, Mr Tsang said.

    Mr Tsang yesterday (May 16) called on the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, and the Minister Mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Today, he attended a lunch hosted by the Senior Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong.

    At the meetings with several senior Singaporean officials today, Mr Tsang learned the latest developments of the country in health care, tourism and environmental protection. 

    "These are the areas where Hong Kong can make useful references," he said.

    This morning, Mr Tsang also toured Bedok NEWater Visitors Centre with the company of the Assistant Chief Executive of PUB, Mr Chan Yoon Kum. NEWater plants supply reclaimed water that has undergone stringent purification and treatment processes. This source of water is mainly used for non-potable applications in industrial and commercial buildings.

    Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (May 18).
