United Kingdom and Poland poultry import applications resumed
******************************************************

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) announced today (May 16) that the processing of applications for importing poultry meat and poultry products from the United Kingdom (except the counties Suffolk and Norfolk) and Poland would resume with immediate effect.

The Centre suspended processing of applications in November and December respectively last year, following confirmation of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 cases on poultry farms in Suffolk/Norfolk and Poland.

"In view of the control measures taken by the United Kingdom and Poland and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported, we decide to resume processing of applications," a CFS spokesman said.

"Restrictions are not lifted for counties Suffolk and Norfolk as we are still monitoring the situation there," he said.
