Provision of lifts to footbridge near Shelter Street gazetted

    The Government today (May 16) published a notice in the Gazette, on provision of lifts at a footbridge across Causeway Road near Shelter Street for convenient public access.

    The proposed works include constructing of two lifts, one at the northern side of the footbridge near Victoria Park and one at the southern side of the footbridge near Shelter Street; demolishing of the existing staircase at southern side of the footbridge near Shelter Street and constructing of a new staircase; permanent closure of a section of the existing carriageway and converted into traffic island; temporary closure of sections of the existing carriageway, footpath and footbridge; and ancillary works including drainage, lighting and electrical and mechanical works.

    The work will begin in mid 2008 and take about 18 months to complete.

    The plan and scheme of the works are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:

(i)  Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, Ground Floor, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central;

(ii) Wan Chai District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, 2 O'Brien Road, Wan Chai; and

(iii) District Lands Office, Hong Kong East, 19th Floor, Southorn Centre, 130-150 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai.

    Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 16th Floor, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong, on or before July 15.
