Hospital Chief Executives rotated to new posts

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The Hospital Authority today (May 15) announced four senior appointments for Hospital Chief Executives (HCE) as an ongoing staff development and management refreshment programme.

    Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Mr Shane Solomon, said, "As the key employer and training ground for local healthcare professionals, both in clinical and non-clinical fields, the authority has always devoted substantial emphasis to continuously develop and grow our own leaders with the necessary skills and experience to ensure the ongoing quality and reliability of public healthcare services."

    "Over the years, we have groomed our leaders through the provision of various management and leadership training.  At the same time, we consider posting in different hospitals and roles will both enhance the exposure of our staff members as well as bring new impetus to the hospital management."

    The new appointments as a result of HCE Rotation are as follows:

-  Dr Lai King-kwong, currently HCE of North District Hospital (NDH), is appointed as the HCE of Yan Chai Hospital. Dr Lai is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine and has been the HCE of NDH since its establishment in August, 1997.

-  Dr David Lam Tat-yin, currently HCE of Tseung Kwan O Hospital (TKOH), is appointed as the HCE of Ruttonjee & Tang Shiu Kin Hospital (RHTSK) and Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH). Dr Lam is a physician by background and before becoming HCE of TKOH, he was the Senior Executive Manager of Professional Services in the Hospital Authority Head Office.

-  Dr Tom Kam-tim, currently HCE of TWEH, Tung Wah Hospital and Wong Chuk Hang Hospital, is appointed as the HCE of TKOH.  Dr Tom is a physician by background and has been in current position since November 1997.

-  Dr Ma Hok-cheung, currently HCE of RHTSK, is appointed as HCE of Caritas Medical Centre. Dr Ma is a physician by background and is instrumental to the full integration of Ruttonjee Hospital and Tang Shiu Kin Hospital since April 1998.

    With the exception of Dr Lai King-kwong who will assume the new position on August 1, the effective date for all the other three appointments is July 1.

    Mr Solomon wished all the four HCEs every success in their new positions.  Meanwhile, all consequential vacancies and others arising out of future retirements will be subject to an open recruitment exercise due to begin before the end of May.
