Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (May 14) fined a woman $1,500 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
During an inspection last October, an officer from the Home Affairs Department’s Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) posed as a customer and ordered food at a clubhouse on Ma Tau Wai Road, To Kwa Wan. The club did not verify the membership status of the officer or invite her to join the club.
The woman, holder of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) of the clubhouse, contravened the special condition of the CoC that the clubhouse should serve only members and their accompanied guests on the club premises. The woman was subsequently charged under section 21(2) of the ordinance.
A spokesman for the department appealed to the public to report illegal clubhouse operation to the OLA on 2881 7498.
