New Cyberport directors appointed

    The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited:

    The Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (HKCMCL) today (May 14) announced the appointment of Mr Lee Shing-see and Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming to its board of directors for the period from May 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010.

    Mr Lee is currently one of the Directors of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. He is also Member of the Construction Industry Council and the Environmental Impact Assessment Appeal Board Panel. Mr Lee joined the Hong Kong Government in 1964, remaining until his retirement in 2002. During his 38-year civil service career, he served in various Works Departments and managed many projects.

    Mr Hu is the Chairman of Ryoden Development Ltd. He is also Chairman of the Major Sports Events Committee and Member of the Council of City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Baptist University. Mr Hu has long and close involvement in a wide range of community work.

    Welcoming the appointment, HKCMCL believed that both Mr Lee and Mr Hu will provide valuable insight and advice to the board of directors and reinforce its management expertise to meet the challenges faced by the Cyberport in the coming years.

    HKCMCL expressed gratitude to the outgoing directors, Mr Samuel N Tsien and Mr Nicholas Brooke, for their valuable support and contribution to the Cyberport in the past years.

    With the new appointment, there are now 10 non-government directors and two government directors on the board. The two government directors are Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mrs Rita Lau, and the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Treasury), Mr Stanley Ying. They are acting for and on behalf of the Financial Secretary Incorporated (FSI) and the Hong Kong Cyberport Development Holdings Limited, shareholders of HKCMCL.

    HKCMCL is one of the three private and wholly-owned companies set up by the Government under the FSI to oversee the development, operation and management of the Cyberport Project. Its board of director is responsible for directing the company according to prudent commercial principles within the overall objectives and guidelines set by the Government for the Cyberport.
