The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in April showed a decrease of 0.3% (783 cases) over March, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (May 9).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of April stood at 284,990 (see attached table), with a total of 489,818 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1.3% in April to 31,285.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.1% in April to 36,597.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.5% to stand at 16,795.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
