Hong Kong movies feature in San Francisco International Film Festival (English only)

    The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco continues to promote Hong Kong movies at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

    Two Hong Kong movies, The Warlords and Linger, are featured at the 51st San Francisco International Film Festival. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office is a proud sponsor of these two films at the festival.  The San Francisco International Film Festival is the longest running film festival in the Americas. This year marks the beginning of a new half-century of the festival, which always offer the best of world cinema.

    Directed by Peter Chan, The Warlords reigns as the Asian super-production for the new millennium.  The film had just won eight awards at the Hong Kong Films Award.  The awards were "Best Film", "Best Director", "Best Actor", "Best Cinematography", "Best Art Direction", "Best Costume Make Up Design", "Best Sound design" and "Best Visual Effects".

    The film, featuring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro was screened at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco over the weekend (April 26 and 27) and received excellent comments from the audience.

    The second Hong Kong movie, Linger, was directed by Johnnie To who directed action films such as ¡°The Mission¡±, ¡°Fulltime Killer¡±, ¡°Exiled¡± and ¡°Mad Detective¡±.  This romantic fantasy showed a gentler side of To and will be featured on May 2 and 3 at Kabuki Cinema and May 5 at Clay Theatre in San Francisco.

The Warlords and Linger are certainly excellent pieces which illustrate the creativity and dedication of our film talents,¡± Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco Ms Doris Cheung said.

    Since the 1970s, Hong Kong has attained a leading position in the Asia-Pacific region in such industries as film, television, music, advertising, and design.  "As our most successful creative product in the global market, 'Hong Kong Film' has won worldwide acclaim,¡± Ms Cheung said.

    ¡°We are excited that the festival continues to showcase Hong Kong films while the Hong Kong Government is striving to enhance the development of our creative industries.¡±
