***********************************************************

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo (HKETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today (April 26) participated in a reception welcoming the Olympic torch to Japan.

The Olympic torch arrived in Japan yesterday and finished its route in Nagano prefecture this morning.

"I feel very honoured to be representing Hong Kong in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the Beijing Olympics torch relay in Japan", the Principal Representative of the HKETO, Mrs Jennie Chok, said.

"Hong Kong takes great pride in playing a special role by co-hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events. With world-class venues, state-of-the-art facilities, professional expertise and dedicated support from the community, we are fully committed to providing the best possible service to competitors as well as spectators from all over the world," she said.

"Hong Kong is riding high with Olympic spirit. So come and visit us to experience the Olympic spirit and vibrancy of Asia's World City," she said.

To further promote Hong Kong as an Olympic co-host city, the HKETO will sponsor the 54th Tokyo Equestrian Games to be held from June 6-8. Organised annually by the Tokyo Riding Club, the three-day event is one of the most popular and prestigious events of its kind in Japan.

Hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Japan, the reception today was attended by more than 100 guests including government officials, diplomats, Olympic Committee representatives and torchbearers from various parts of Japan.

The Olympic torch will leave for Seoul, Korea, after the reception.
