Chairman of Public Service Commission reappointed

    The government today (April 25) announced the re-appointment of Mr Nicholas Ng Wing-fui as the Chairman of the Public Service Commission for a term of three years with effect from May 1. Mr Ng was first appointed as chairman of the commission in May, 2005.

    The Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, said, "I am pleased that Mr Ng will continue to lead the commission. Mr Ng has provided outstanding leadership to the commission in the past three years. His extensive abilities and deep understanding of the civil service has facilitated the commission in fulfilling its role to ensure fairness and impartiality in appointments, promotions and discipline in the civil service."

    The commission is an independent statutory body set up under the Public Service Commission Ordinance. Its fundamental role is to advise the administration on appointments, promotions and discipline in the civil service. It currently comprises a chairman and seven non-official members, all of whom are appointed by the Chief Executive.
