Revised Moral and Civic Education Curriculum Framework announced
*******************************************************

The Moral and Civic Education Curriculum Framework has been revised by adding "Integrity" and "Caring" as two priority values, the Education Bureau announced today (April 25).

"Moral and Civic Education is one of the key tasks in the curriculum reform implemented since 2001. To keep pace with societal changes and the implementation of the New Senior Secondary Curriculum, 'Integrity' and 'Caring' will be added to the five existing priority values - 'Perseverance', 'Respect', 'Responsibility', 'National identity' and 'Commitment'.

"Schools are encouraged to integrate more closely elements of values development and national education into the school curricula and the other learning activities," a spokesman for the Education Bureau said.

In the revised Moral and Civic Education Curriculum Framework, examples of "Life at Work" are provided to help S4 to S6 students adapt to working life in future. The revised framework also sets learning expectations for students at key stages for schools to conduct holistic Moral and Civic Education curriculum planning.

The revised Moral and Civic Education Curriculum Framework will be implemented in the 2008/09 school year. A seminar on the topic was held for primary schools today. Another seminar will be held on May 9 for secondary schools. Details of the revised framework are available on the Education Bureau website www.edb.gov.hk/cd/mce
