The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (April 18) thanked the expert group led by Professor K Y Yuen, Head of Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong, for their hard work investigating the deaths of three children with acute febrile illnesses in the past month.
"The expert group has put forward a number of valuable proposals on the public health and clinical aspects. We will consider these proposals in detail with a view to strengthening our prevention and control of influenza to protect public health," Dr Chow said.
He added that the Government would closely monitor the latest influenza situation. Dr Chow also urged the public to stay alert to prevent influenza.
The Government appointed Professor Yuen to set up an expert group to look into the three fatal cases. The five other members of the group were experts of microbiology, clinical medicine, forensic medicine, pathology and toxicology.
