The Government today (April 18) published a notice in the Gazette to widen Tuen Mun Road Town Centre Section to meet the anticipated traffic growth.
The proposed works include widening of the Tuen Mun Road Town Centre Section between Yan Oi Town Square to Wong Chu Road with one additional traffic lane for both Kowloon bound and Yuen Long bound carriageways; construction of a single-lane flyover to connect Tsing Hoi Circuit with the Kowloon bound lane of the Tuen Mun Road Expressway; reconstruction of four existing footbridges and provision of two temporary footbridges during construction period; improvement of existing traffic light signal-controlled junctions along Castle Peak Road; installation of noise barriers and enclosures; and ancillary works including installation of traffic control & surveillance systems and modification of directional signs.
The works will commence in mid 2009 and are expected to be completed by 2011. Some sections of the existing carriageways, vehicular bridges, footbridges and footpaths will be temporarily closed and reconstructed or permanently closed and demolished.
The plan and scheme of the works are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:
(i) Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, ground floor, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central;
(ii) Tuen Mun District Office, 2nd floor, Tuen Mun Government Offices, 1 Tuen Hi Road, Tuen Mun ; and
(iii) District Lands Office, Tuen Mun, 6th floor, Tuen Mun Government Offices, 1 Tuen Hi Road, Tuen Mun.
Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 16th floor, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong, on or before June 17, 2008.
