In view of popular response, four extra screenings will be held at the retrospective "Epic Times, Simple Stories: The World of Zhu Shilin". There will also be a change of schedule for the screening of "The Lost Pearl" on May 11.
The four extra screenings are "The Dividing Wall" (1952) to be shown at 2.30pm, "Sorrows of the Forbidden City" (1948) at 5pm on May 17, "Between Husband and Wife" (1958) at 2.30pm and "A Widow¡¯s Tears" (1956) at 5pm on May 18. All films will be screened at the Cinema of the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA).
Owing to changes in the film transportation schedule, the originally scheduled screening of "The Lost Pearl" on May 11 at 5pm will be replaced by "Garden of Repose". Ticket holders of "The Lost Pearl" can bring along their tickets to attend either the additional screening of "The Lost Pearl" at 7.30pm on April 26, or attend the replaced film "Garden of Repose" scheduled on the original screening time or to refund at the Box Office of the Hong Kong Film Archive or the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from April 23 to May 12.
Zhu's works from the 1930s to 1960s are now on show until May 18. Tickets of many of the screenings have already sold out. Limited tickets for the rare 1930s works provided by the China Film Archive: "Two Stars", "The Lost Pearl" and "Vistas of Art: Film City"; the comedies "Festival Moon"; the masterful adaptation of literary masterpiece "Garden of Repose" and the opera adaptation of "The Eternal Love" are still available.
Except "Between Husband and Wife" and "Vistas of Art: Film City", which are both in Mandarin, all other films mentioned above have English subtitles. The silent movie "Two Stars" will have musical accompaniment.
Director Zhu is one of the key filmmakers in the history of Chinese cinema. He excelled in a diversity of genres, from family melodramas to romantic comedies, from contemporary dramas to historical epics, with work a coalescence of classical Chinese lyricism and modern Western romanticism.
To complement the screenings, an exhibition, running from now to June 9 at the Exhibition Hall of the HKFA, presents reconstructed film sets of partitioned tenement from films "The Dividing Wall" and "Should They Marry?", film notes and scripts of "Thunderstorm" and "Fragrant Princess", the never released original manuscript of "The Imperial Concubine Yang", precious archival materials, photos and oral history interviews. Admission is free.

Tickets for all screenings priced at $30 are available at all URBTIX outlets.
