The Hospital Authority (HA) today (April 17) unveiled a "Hall of Fame" at its Headquarters Building to recognise the contribution of healthcare workers who have received awards for outstanding work in the past 15 years. The unveiling ceremony was officiated by the HA Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu; the Chairman of Human Resources Committee, Dr Anthony Ho; and the Chief Executive of HA, Mr Shane Solomon.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Anthony Ho said, "This 'Hall of Fame' has engraved in it the names of each and every winner of the Outstanding Staff and Teams Awards as an expression of the importance the HA accords to them. It is our hope that these models of excellence will encourage colleagues to follow suit so that HA's vision and objectives can be achieved."
Following the unveiling ceremony, the HA announced the recipients of this year's Outstanding Staff and Teams Award. A total of six staff members and seven healthcare teams from different disciplines of public hospitals and the HA Head Office were awarded. (The list of awardees is appended).
Addressing the awardees at the ceremony, Dr Anthony Ho commended their dedication and outstanding performance in delivering quality patient-centred care and for enhancing team spirit and the effectiveness of their organisations.
"This is the 15th anniversary of the award. Since its introduction in 1993, the HA outstanding staff award has been organised annually as a corporate-wide staff recognition programme to show appreciation for the significant contributions made by staff members. The objectives of the award are to honour and reward staff members for outstanding performance or exemplary behaviour, as well as to motivate staff to perform and behave in an exemplary way to achieve the goals of the HA."
The selection panel was chaired by Dr Anthony Ho, and comprised the HA's Chief Executive, Mr Shane Solomon; Kowloon Central Cluster Chief Executive, Dr Hung Chi-tim; HA's Head of Human Resources, Mr David Rossiter; and an award winner last year, Mr Lee Pak-wai, who is HA Chief Pharmacist.
Dr Ho said the awardees were selected from among 56 nominations by various units of public hospitals and the HA Head Office. The selection criteria included:
(a) Professional excellence
(b) Exemplary behaviour in:
- Caring
- Patient (Client)-centred
- Quality
- Dedication
- Creativity
- Teamwork
The presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Staff and Teams Awards 2008 will be held at the closing ceremony of the HA Convention on May 6 (Tuesday), 2008.
