Theme of love for ethnic minority dance troupe

    The Youjiang National Song and Dance Troupe of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will perform in Hong Kong next month (May) to showcase ethnic minority dances from China on the theme of love.

    Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, ˇ°Love Comes Shining Over the Mountainsˇ± will bring to Hong Kong audiences traditional dances of the Zhuang, Yi, Miao and Thai minorities. The programme includes award-winning works such as ˇ°Sway and Swayˇ± (the highest honour Bronze Drum Award presented by the Guangxi Government), ˇ°Smearing Facesˇ± (Class One Award at the Guangxi Ethnic Dance Competition), ˇ°Lusheng Danceˇ± (Distinguished Dance Performance Award at the National Dance Competition).

    The Youjiang National Song and Dance Troupe of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, founded in 1959, comprises professional artistes of the Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Yi and Hui ethnic groups. In its history, the troupe has truly followed its artistic direction, which is to develop ethnic arts. It has groomed many folk dancers and artistic talents and built a repertory that is distinguished by sophistication and vernacular charm. The troupe currently has more than 90 members, and about 20 are National Class One and Class Two Choreographer/Directors and Performers.

    Tickets priced from $80 to $180 are now available at all URTBIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or over, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
