Thirty-six pollution convictions in March

    Thirty-six convictions were recorded last month (March) for breaches of anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

    Fourteen of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 14 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, four under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance, two under the Noise Control Ordinance, one under the Dumping at Sea Ordinance and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.

    The heaviest fine in March was $40,000, assessed against a person who contravened the provisions of a licence.
