Illegal food manufacturing activities crushed

    The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) this morning (April 8) mounted an operation against unlicensed food manufacturing activities in Kwun Tong and seized about 14 kilogrammes of food.

    Acting on information that illegal food manufacturing activities were carried out on board a light goods vehicle at the rear lane of 94-96 How Ming Street and the foods were for sale, FEHD officers mounted the raid this morning. During the operation, a woman was arrested and is assisting investigations.

    Foods including instant noodles, bread, luncheon meat, sausages and eggs were seized.
   
    Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months¡¯ imprisonment.

    ¡°We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health,¡± a department spokesman said.

    ¡°People should report such illegal activities through the department¡¯s hotline at 2868 0000.¡±
