Immigration officers on study visit to Mainland (with photo)

    A 10-member Immigration Department delegation will leave tomorrow (April 9) for a study visit to Beijing, Changchun and Hefei.

    The 11-day visit is aimed at enhancing understanding and co-operation with the relevant Mainland authorities and promoting better working relations with them.

    Assistant Principal Immigration Officer (Registration of Persons), Mrs Chui Chan Wai-kuen, five officer grade and four rank-and-file grade staff members will visit their Mainland counterparts to share work experience. The visit has been arranged by the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO).

    The delegation will visit the HKMAO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Capital International Airport, the Immigration Section of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Beijing Office and the Public Security Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office, and travel document and exit endorsement issuing offices in various cities.

    The Director of Immigration, Mr Peh Yun-lu, said that following the reunification, co-operation and communication between the department and the relevant Mainland authorities has been increasing. "To facilitate an exchange of knowledge and experience between our officers and their Mainland counterparts, we consider that regular study visits to the Mainland are highly desirable," Mr Peh said.

    The delegation will return to Hong Kong on April 19.
