Oscar winner and industry experts to speak at digital entertainment forum

    Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited will presents the fifth Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum (DELF) on April 8. With the theme of ¡°Immersive Media: What¡¯s Next in Creative Digital Content ¡ª 3D Cinema¡±, Cyberport has brought together a group of renowned local and overseas experts, who will share their insights and experiences in 3D cinema at this annual Cyberport signature event. DELF 2008 participants will also have the first chance to preview the trailer of Journey to the Centre of the Earth ¡ª 3D which will be released globally in the summer of 2008.

    Immersive media is a breakthrough technology in digital entertainment which takes audiences to new levels of excitement and enjoyment by making them part of the experience. Immersive media is made possible by critical elements such as stereoscopic 3D graphics, surround sound and interactive user-input. New 3D formats and technologies bring realistic and thrilling effects to a live audience. DELF 2008 will unveil some of the latest in 3D immersive digital entertainment.

    Prominent speakers from around the world will share their insights and achievements at DELF 2008. Professor Lu Shengzhang, the Chief and Creative Director of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games¡¯ animated promotional film Fuwa and the former Dean of the Animation School, Communication University of China, will present his unique view of creative digital content from the globalising, cultural and humanised perspectives.

    Mr Eric Brevig, Oscar winner for the Special Achievement Award on Visual Effects in Total Recall, will also present a keynote session to preview clips of his new movie, Journey to the Centre of the Earth ¡ª 3D, for the first time in Hong Kong.

    Other speakers include Mr Steve Schklair, the world¡¯s leading expert in digital and live-action 3D production, Mr Gary Goddard, one of the world¡¯s most accomplished creators of 3D/4D entertainment in the theme park industry, and Mr Warren Franklin, veteran 3D visual effects producer of many Hollywood films such as Night at the Museum.

    DELF 2008 will also feature prominent speakers from the local digital entertainment industry. Mr John Chu, whose company won the Best Visual Effects at the Hong Kong Film Awards with Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, and the award-winning cinematographer Henry Chung, will present their latest achievements.

    To engage the audience with the ultimate 3D immersive experience, Cyberport will present the first Dolby 3D system in Hong Kong at DELF 2008. As a side programme to the forum, Cyberport will hold a 3D content training workshop, which will be conducted by leading professionals.

    DELF 2008 is organised by Cyberport under the full support from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer. Co-organisers include Cyberport IncuTrain Centre, China Game Publishers Association (Hong Kong), Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association and Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Industry Support Centre. The forum is also supported by 15 other well-known industry associations, educational institutions and government departments.  DELF 2008 is one of the nine core events of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, and an initiative to facilitate the realisation of the 2008 Digital 21 Strategy of ¡°Building on Hong Kong¡¯s position as a world digital city¡±.
